Iowa Veterans Affairs

Service members or veterans who were seriously injured in the line of duty in a hazardous area after September 11, 2001 may be eligible and can apply for up to $10,000. 

Program 

The legislative intent of this program is to provide immediate financial assistance to a veteran so that family members of the veteran may be with the veteran during the veteran’s recovery from an injury received in the line of duty in an area where the veteran was receiving combat or hazardous duty pay after September 11, 2001.
Injury categories are defined in DOD Joint Publication 1-02.

Iowa Code Section 35A.14

Iowa Administrative Code (IAC): Agency 801 (Veterans Affairs), Chapter 11

  • 801β€”11.1: Grant amounts, eligibility, and the standard $2,500 increments up to a $10,000 maximum.
  • 801β€”11.2: Application procedures, necessary documentation (like DD-214s or medical evacuation records), and submission deadlines.
  • Tax Exemption: Iowa Administrative Code Rule 701β€”302.68
