The Iowa Commission of Veterans Affairs is comprised of 13 members, 10 from established veterans service organizations, one member representing the Iowa National Guard, one member at large, and the Commandant of the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs as a non-voting member. Members are nominated by their organization, approved by the Office of the Governor, and confirmed by the Senate. Together, the commission serves multiple functions by providing guidance on veteran issues, representing and communicating with their respective service organizations, public and legislative advocacy, and approving Iowa Veterans Trust Fund applications and Veteran License Plate Fund project applications. The Commission meets quarterly in January, April, July & October.
